Ogun State has organised a stakeholders workshop to find solutions to the growing menace of environmental degradation arising from electronic waste.

The workshop, themed “Transforming E-Waste into Opportunity: Circular Economy Solutions for Ogun State,” was organised by the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), environmental experts, private sector stakeholders, recyclers, and sustainability advocates to deliberate on practical solutions to the growing challenge of electronic waste in the state and across Nigeria.

Among the notable stakeholders present at the event was E-Terra Technologies Ltd., one of the sponsors of the workshop and a leading player in Nigeria’s e-waste management sector.

Speaking during the event, the Chief Executive Officer of E-Terra Technologies Ltd., Dr. Ifeanyi Ochonogor, emphasized the urgent need for collective action in addressing the environmental and health dangers posed by the improper disposal of electronic waste.

According to him, “The time has come for citizens, government, and all relevant stakeholders to work together in unison to combat the menace of electronic waste and ensure a safer and cleaner environment for present and future generations.”

Dr. Ochonogor also informed participants about the commencement of plans for what is projected to be Africa’s first Waste Recycling and Refining Facility in Shagamu, Ogun State.

He noted that the project would significantly enhance sustainable waste management practises, create employment opportunities, and further position Ogun State as a hub for environmental innovation and circular economic development in Africa.

The workshop featured presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions aimed at promoting awareness, collaboration, and sustainable approaches to e-waste management within Ogun State and beyond.
