The Lyrics Hall of Fame and Museum Foundation (LHMFF) has announced Nigeria’s inaugural Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, scheduled to take place in Lagos in 2027.
The historic event, described as Africa’s first of its kind, will be held during the week of World Music Day on Friday, June 19, 2027, at the prestigious MUSON Centre (Shell Hall), Lagos.
The ceremony will honour the Class of 2027 — a select group of legendary Nigerian musicians whose contributions have significantly shaped the nation’s music industry and influenced African and global music.
The initiative is the culmination of years of planning that began in 2009. The Lyrics Hall of Fame and Museum Foundation, a non-profit organisation, was established to preserve Nigeria’s rich musical heritage, celebrate its pioneers, and inspire future generations through documentation, education, and innovation.
Prince Ayodeji Adedeji, Founder of the Foundation and Executive Producer of the Nigerian Music Hall of Fame, described the event as a major milestone.
“Our vision is to build a world-class institution — both digital and physical — that safeguards Nigeria’s musical heritage and connects it to the world,” Prince Adedeji said. “This dream was conceived in 2009, and we have remained committed to making it a reality.”
He added that the Foundation plans to establish a permanent museum that will immortalise the legacies of Nigeria’s musical icons for generations to come.
The induction ceremony is being designed to meet international standards, comparable to globally renowned institutions such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The event will not only honour legendary performers but also recognise outstanding contributions from various sectors of the music industry, including emerging and established artists, music producers and composers, record label executives, marketers and promoters, music journalists and critics, as well as industry entrepreneurs and philanthropists. Recipients will be awarded the prestigious Nigerian Music Hall of Fame (NMHF) Medallion of Honour.
The Foundation will also extend recognition to international artists and industry figures who have played key roles in promoting Nigerian music, particularly Afrobeats, on the global stage.
A high-profile international press conference will be announced soon, during which the official Class of 2027 inductees will be unveiled, along with details on ticketing and global broadcast plans.
The Lyrics Hall of Fame and Museum Foundation remains committed to preserving, documenting, and celebrating Nigeria’s musical legacy while positioning it for greater global recognition.
