ABUJA — The National Association of Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) says former University of Benin Pro-Chancellor, Senator Effiong Dickson Bob, helped drive Nigeria’s shift towards digital learning through the Electronic Education Initiative (EDON), now in use across Colleges of Education.

The students’ body says the platform is reshaping classroom learning, making materials easier to access, improving digital skills, and helping students keep pace with global standards.

The position was contained in a statement signed by Comrade Kur Isaac Ushahemba, National President of NANCES.

“History will continue to remember Senator Effiong Bob as one of the foremost national leaders who saw the future of education beyond the conventional classroom system and took bold steps toward integrating technology into teaching and learning processes,” the statement said.

NANCES said the initiative began during Bob’s tenure as Chairman of the Governing Council and Pro-Chancellor of the University of Benin, where EDON was first introduced before expanding to other institutions.

“Today, EDON has become a household name within Nigeria’s educational sector, especially in Colleges of Education, where it continues to simplify teaching and learning, improve accessibility to academic resources, enhance digital literacy among students and lecturers, and prepare Nigerian students to compete favourably with their counterparts across the globe,” it added.

The association also commended the management of EDON for sustaining the initiative, noting that its impact is already being felt across institutions.

“It is our submission that the government considers visionary leaders like Senator Bob who, at a time when many embraced the status quo, saw a future for a country to impact its students, its youth, and its future labour force,” the statement said.
