The United States of America’s wing of the University of Benin alumni association , has participated in the 30th edition of the Nigerian American Golf Group , NAGG tournament.

A statement on the event by Mr Jerome- Mario Utomi reads : ” In line with expert recommendations that sporting activities promote health and general well-being, alumni of the University of Benin resident in the United States, alongside other respected professionals from across the globe, recently gathered for the 30th Nigerian American Golf Group (NAGG) Tournament. The event was held at three different golf courses around Charlotte, North Carolina, widely known as the Queen City.

“The three-day tournament ran from April 30 to May 2, 2026. It opened with a pre-tournament dinner at the Casa de Edosomwan, the Palatial mansion of Dr. Fidelis Edosomwan. The dinner featured Sir Tonna Okei (Ikuku Oma), President of the South Carolina-based Organization for African Unity (OAU), as Special Guest of Honour, and Owen Ogunfere, Founder of NAGG.

“The occasion also served as a special celebration of Dr. Uyi Igbinadolor, an internationally renowned surgeon, who attended with his wife, Dr. Awawu Igbinadolor.

“Speaking at the event, Sir Tonna Okei stressed the urgent need for a cultural renaissance in Nigeria and Africa. He noted that reviving and protecting our heritage is crucial for building stronger communities and safeguarding the values of our people.

“Okei commended Owen Ogunfere for his immense contributions to sports development. He also paid a glowing tribute to Edo-born Dr. Uyi Igbinadolor, describing him as a “special breed of human” for his relentless service to humanity.

“While fielding questions from journalists, Okei, widely known as a Cultural Ambassador for his active promotion of African heritage, said: “I must use this opportunity to appreciate and celebrate my senior brother, an Edo State-born medical doctor and surgeon who practices in both the United States and the United Kingdom. He is a man of many parts.”

“Dr. Igbinadolor is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and a Diplomate of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is respected globally for his resourcefulness and ingenuity. Beyond medicine, he is known for his political and philanthropic work in Edo State.

“During the 2024 Edo governorship election, Dr. Igbinadolor served on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council. He also founded and led “Team Dr. Uyi Igbinadolor for Asue/Ogie,” a political pressure group that supported PDP candidates Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie for Governor and Deputy Governor. The group became known for its formidable grassroots mobilization, outperforming several other movements.

“Okei also highlighted Dr. Igbinadolor’s empowerment initiatives, including multiple “Market Women Money” programs across Edo State’s three senatorial districts and interest-free microcredit loans for underprivileged indigenes, in line with Asue Ighodalo’s poverty alleviation agenda.

“Dr. Igbinadolor is a rare individual with vision,” Okei said. “He understands that success requires more than hard work. In a rapidly changing world, he embraces continuous learning and believes education must be a lifelong pursuit to remain relevant socially, economically, and professionally.”

“Okei added that Dr. Igbinadolor lives by the principle that “we earn a living by what we receive, but we make a life by what we give.” This belief is evident in his philanthropy and consistent support for individuals, communities, and faith-based organizations. His compassion, Okei noted, transcends tribe, language, and religion.

“Personally, I have learned two key lessons from Dr. Uyi,” Okei shared. “First, true peace and fulfillment come from serving others. Second, everyone needs compassionate people who help them rise above life’s challenges.”

“Okei revealed that he is a direct beneficiary of Dr. Igbinadolor’s kindness. “During my critical health challenge, Dr. Uyi stepped forward with invaluable support and encouragement. Through his assistance and by God’s grace, I am alive today.

“There is an African proverb that says when a child is carried on an adult’s back, the child’s legs should not drag on the ground. In my experience, Dr. Uyi ensured my legs did not touch the ground. His encouragement helped me rise above challenges.”

“Without doubt, the golf tournament brought us together but the truth must be told to the effect that it was Dr Uyi who served as the Man of the moment. And it is on this note that i sincerely and most respectfully thank Dr. Awawu Igbinadolor his wife who on that day glowed and illuminated the floor with her custom made Green flowing dress, assisting her husband to make sure everyone who flew in from all over the world was settled and enjoyed the Igbinadolor’s famed hospitality.

“Okei concluded by describing Dr. Igbinadolor as a “seasoned professional and dependable humanist” with a track record of “putting smiles on the faces of the downtrodden.”

“This year’s NAGG tournament attracted a distinguished crowd of professionals from within and outside the United States, including Dr Chiedu Okocha, Dr. Steve Osaguona, Engineer Dauda Nuhu, Mr. Jude Efe, Dr. Garba Ali, among other dignitaries.”
