Nigerian Afro-soul singer and producer Lodù has released a new single titled “Follow,” marking what appears to be a more reflective phase in her evolving sound and songwriting.
The Afro-pop track, which incorporates subtle folk elements, explores themes of commitment, emotional clarity and intentional love. Rather than presenting romance as spontaneous, the song frames devotion as a conscious decision capable of reshaping personal identity and direction.
Inspired by the idea of eloping, “Follow” centres on the emotional urgency of choosing one person and building a life around that decision. The song also touches on ideas of freedom, surrender and self-definition within relationships.
Musically, the record adopts a restrained approach, relying on soft melodic arrangements and minimal instrumentation to create an intimate atmosphere. Lodù’s vocals remain at the forefront, carrying much of the emotional weight of the song while avoiding heavy production.
The singer’s latest release continues her blend of Indigenous storytelling and contemporary Afro-soul influences, a style that has become a defining feature of her music. The production of “Follow” prioritises simplicity and emotional clarity over elaborate arrangements, reflecting a more measured artistic direction.
The single follows the release of “Olowo Orimi,” which previously reached No. 32 on the Nigeria Top 50 chart and remained on the ranking for several weeks, helping to expand her audience within Nigeria’s alternative and Afro-soul music scene.
With “Follow,” Lodù continues to refine her sound, leaning further into minimalism and emotionally driven storytelling while maintaining the Afro-soul identity that has shaped her work so far.
