A former Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Housing, Mrs Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, has declared her intention to represent Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Odunuga-Bakare is seeking the ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to challenge the incumbent lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, who is currently representing the constituency and is bidding for a fourth term.

Speaking during an endorsement by APC leaders, members, and stakeholders in Surulere, she pledged to raise the standard of representation and ensure that constituents enjoy more dividends of democracy.

Odunuga-Bakare said: “As you all know, I am passionate about the development of Surulere. I want to represent you at the Assembly to further bring home dividends of democracy. I value your support and urge you to keep supporting me.”

She noted that the party’s primaries are scheduled for March 20, expressing confidence in emerging as the APC flag bearer.

“We are having the Assembly primaries on March 20. I am counting on your support to emerge as our party’s candidate. Please, support my aspiration and I promise to raise the bar and deliver.”

Calling for unity within the party, she said: “This is not the time to fight; this is a time to unite for the good of APC and Surulere. I am for Surulere and will not disappoint.”

Outlining her agenda, Odunuga-Bakare promised to strengthen collaboration between the state and local government through an engaging and result-oriented legislative process aimed at fostering growth and development.

She also promised impactful representation focused on security, education, sports, healthcare, and welfare for the elderly, as well as youth development and entrepreneurship.

“I intend to promote and foster unity in Surulere Constituency and partner with all stakeholders in ensuring the security and welfare of our people,” she said.

On infrastructure, the lawyer-turned politician pledged effective legislative oversight to improve basic amenities, including roads, while also prioritising healthcare and education.

Addressing women, youths, and the elderly, she assured constituents of inclusive governance.

“There will be guaranteed youth inclusiveness at all levels for political growth, as well as robust women empowerment to promote self-reliance and business development,” she said.
