HairbyHairboy: Nigerian digital entrepreneur expands hair retail business online

Chinedu Daniel Akanigwo, popularly known as HairbyHairboy, has emerged as a rising figure in Nigeria’s digital fashion and beauty space. Operating in the hair retail sector, Akanigwo has built a strong presence on TikTok, YouTube, and other social media platforms, where he markets his products and engages directly with customers.

Born on November 4, 2001, in Lagos, Akanigwo began his hair business in 2016 at just 15 years old. Initially relying on offline sales and word-of-mouth referrals, he transitioned to online marketing in 2021 with the launch of his YouTube channel, followed by TikTok in 2022. His persistence paid off in 2025 when several of his TikTok videos gained viral traction, with one surpassing 400,000 views.

Speaking on his early adoption of social media, Akanigwo explained: “I created this YouTube account so that I can be posting and promoting my stuff there… this boost will come from social media, so I have to promote it there.”

His online visibility grew further through collaborations with fellow Nigerian creators such as Peller and Jarvis. These partnerships expanded his reach and strengthened his brand presence in the competitive beauty market.

Akanigwo’s business model relies heavily on social media for marketing, customer communication, and sales. Orders are placed via direct messages, payments are made through bank transfers, and deliveries are handled by third-party logistics services. This lean approach reflects a broader trend among Nigerian entrepreneurs who leverage digital platforms to bypass the costs of physical retail spaces.

As of 2026, Akanigwo continues to operate from Lagos, maintaining a consistent posting schedule and expanding his audience across multiple platforms. His journey highlights the growing role of social media in shaping Nigeria’s beauty and fashion retail industry.
