A civic group, Lagosians for Truth and Justice, has petitioned the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, demanding a fresh, independent forensic review into the death of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The petition, addressed to CP Fatai Tijani and copied to the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, was signed by the group’s spokesman, Rotimi DaSilva.

In the petition dated Tuesday, the group expressed concern over what it described as unresolved contradictions and lingering public distrust nearly three years after the singer’s death in September 2023.

The group stated that the case has become a significant test of public confidence in Nigeria’s justice system.

“We write once again regarding the deeply troubling and unresolved circumstances surrounding the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad,” the petition read.

The group called for a completely independent forensic review by credible experts whose findings can withstand local and international scrutiny. They also demanded an independently supervised DNA process to resolve the paternity controversy and full transparency on toxicology reports, chain of custody of samples, laboratories used, and witness statements.

The organisation urged the police to re-evaluate key witnesses connected to the singer’s final hours while ensuring the investigation remains free from interference.

The group emphasised that the prolonged delay and lack of clarity have continued to fuel public speculation and weaken trust in national institutions.

“A transparent and professionally handled conclusion to this case would not only serve justice for Mohbad, but would also help restore public confidence in the integrity of Nigerian institutions,” the statement added.

The death of Mohbad continues to generate public interest and calls for accountability from many Nigerians.
