First Bank of Nigeria Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to the annual OBJ Golf Tournament, pledging continuous sponsorship of the event as its eighth edition tees off at the Abeokuta Golf Club.

Speaking at a pre-event media briefing in Abeokuta during the week, Adeniran Oladele, Business Manager, Public Sector Directorate of FirstBank, stated that the banks commitment to the tournament remains absolute. He noted that the financial institution prioritizes initiatives that foster unity and bring people together in conducive sporting environments that the OBJ Golf Tournament offers.

Our support for this competition is not a mistake because FirstBank, is a legacy institution and if you have legacy idea like the OBJ golf tournament FirstBank will always throw its weight behind it. Because we have been around for a while, it’s easier for the bank to recognize the legacy which former President Olusegun Obasanjo has build and that is why we at FirstBank keyed into it and that commitment remains unshakeable, Oladele said.

He disclosed that FirstBank sports sponsorship initiative is driven by its first@sport initiative; a long-standing sports sponsorship and empowerment platform designed to promote sports talent, in football, basketball, polo, golf, and tennis while fostering social impact and national unity among Nigerians, especially the youths.

Umar Bakare, the Golf Captain of the Abeokuta Golf Club, thanked the bank for its consistent backing over the years, describing them as a reliable partner, noting that the club is already looking forward to a bumper ninth edition of the OBJ Golf tournament.

The club’s Competition Secretary, Tolulope Olugbemi, confirmed that this year’s edition will feature a highly competitive field. Participants will include top professional golfers, amateur players from across the country, caddies, and staff of the club.
