The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Daisi Elemide, has congratulated Muslims across Ogun State and Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, urging Nigerians to embrace sacrifice, peace and unity for national development.
In a goodwill message released to journalists in Abeokuta through his Media Aide, Kunle Idowu, Elemide described Eid-el-Kabir as a season that symbolises obedience, sacrifice, love and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.
The Speaker called on Muslim faithful to continue to uphold the virtues of tolerance, compassion, peaceful coexistence and unwavering faith, stressing that such values remained critical to nation-building and societal harmony.
According to him, “The lessons of Eid-el-Kabir should inspire Nigerians, especially political leaders and citizens, to make sacrifices that will promote collective development and improve the wellbeing of the people.”
Elemide congratulated the Muslim Ummah for witnessing another Eid celebration and urged them to use the spiritual significance of the festival to pray for peace, unity and prosperity in Ogun State and Nigeria.
He also appealed to residents of the state to celebrate in moderation and avoid acts capable of threatening public peace and security during and after the festivities.
“The current economic and social challenges confronting the nation require collective sacrifice, understanding and cooperation among all citizens, irrespective of ethnic, political or religious affiliations,” he said.
The Speaker further urged Nigerians, particularly privileged individuals, to extend support to the less privileged during the festive season, noting that acts of kindness and charity would help strengthen social bonds within communities.
Elemide assured residents that the Ogun State House of Assembly under his leadership would continue to prioritise legislative initiatives aimed at deepening democratic governance and accelerating socio-economic development in the state.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Assembly to working harmoniously with other arms of government in the overall interest of the people.
Commending Muslim leaders and clerics for their continuous prayers and moral guidance, Elemide noted that religious harmony remained one of the strongest foundations for sustainable development.
He praised security agencies in the State for maintaining law and order, especially during festive periods, and urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with relevant authorities by providing useful information capable of preventing criminal activities.
Expressing optimism about the future of the country, the Speaker said Nigeria would overcome its present challenges through unity, sincere leadership and collective prayers.
Elemide wished Muslims a peaceful, joyous and spiritually rewarding Eid-el-Kabir celebration filled with abundant blessings and renewed hope, while calling on Nigerians to continue to embrace peace, tolerance and national unity for greater progress and stability.
