The leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and immediate past Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Seriake Dickson has officially endorsed Senator Roland Owhie as Chairman of the Edo State Elders Council of the NDC, urging party leaders to intensify efforts toward building unity and expanding the party’s acceptance across Edo State.

The endorsement was announced on Thursday, May 21, 2026, during a strategic meeting of Edo State leaders and aspirants held at Senator Dickson’s residence in Jabi, Abuja.

Addressing party stakeholders, Senator Dickson charged Don P Ojemen, the Edo State Coordinating Leader for Edo Central, alongside Bishop Isaac Idahosa, who was Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso Vice Presidential Candidate in 2023 elections and now Edo South Senatorial Leader to fast-track grassroots mobilization and strengthen the party’s structure across the state ahead of future elections.

The former Bayelsa governor emphasized the importance of disciplined leadership, consensus-building, and collaboration between party leaders and both the National and State Executive Councils, stressing that the emerging political platform must avoid the internal crises and divisions that have weakened other parties.

According to him, senatorial leadership within the party must be driven by consensus and unity in order to consolidate the NDC’s growth and credibility.

“Chief Don P, I entrust you with the leadership to foster consensus and unity among our constituents in Edo.

This esteemed institution is founded on principles of peace and justice. We must proactively avoid the injustices and indiscipline observed in other political organizations. Edo must serve as a model,” Dickson declared.

The meeting, attended by prominent party leaders and aspirants from across Edo State, focused on strategies for party consolidation, grassroots expansion, and preparations for future electoral contests.

Speaking during the gathering, Don P Ojemen reiterated his commitment to supporting all legitimate political aspirations within the party while warning against infiltrators, disruptors, and provocateurs who could undermine the party’s mission.

He maintained that the party’s executive mechanisms would ensure the emergence of credible candidates capable of reversing what he described as the decline in governance and representation in Edo State.

Ojemen further urged party leaders and supporters to intensify voter registration, mobilization, and sensitization efforts ahead of what he described as “challenging but promising elections.”

He also stressed the need for unity among aspirants and stakeholders, cautioning against divisive primary contests that could weaken the party’s collective strength.

Reaffirming support for the party’s national direction, he called on members to align with the leadership’s strategic vision toward achieving a seamless Obi/Kwankwaso presidential ticket, ending the meeting with the party’s rallying slogan: “NDC! OK Together!!”
