A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Mushin Constituency I, Mr. Owoeye Adeyemo, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Adeyemo, who is set to challenge the incumbent, Prince Nureni Akinsanya, at the party primaries, said his constituents deserve better representation driven by action and measurable results.
Speaking at a press conference in the Odi-Olowo area of Mushin, Adeyemo said the time has come for a new phase of leadership defined by competence, accessibility, and impact.
He explained that his chances in the race are strengthened by legal backing, adding that his support base lies with the people.
“My strength is in the streets. The people have shown their support and they are ready for a new direction. I stay with my people and listen to them. When leadership is accessible, people can share ideas and together we can find solutions.
“There must be room for fresh ideas. After years of representation, it is important to allow others to serve and bring new energy.
“This is a defining moment for our people to reflect and decide the future they truly deserve. While past efforts were commendable, the constituency requires more visible and responsive governance. I understand the everyday struggles of our people—the traders, the youth, and families. My mission is simple: to bring leadership closer to the people and ensure governance delivers real progress.”
He added: “Our people deserve more action, more visibility, and more results. Leadership must not be distant; it must be present, active, and responsive to the needs of the people. I am not a new face. I have been part and parcel of the struggle and the growth of our party. I have supported and served in different capacities when it mattered most.
“I am a long-standing member of the progressive family in the constituency, committed to the growth of the party over the years, contributing both morally and financially. Everyone knows I operate an open-door policy that allows constant engagement with constituents. That is why I am not just standing as an aspirant, but as a man who can deliver,” he said.
Adeyemo further stated that, if elected, his focus would be on facilitating development through collaboration with relevant government agencies to create opportunities for youth through employment, scholarships, and skill development initiatives.
“As a member of the House of Assembly, your duty is to make laws and also work with the executive to attract projects that will benefit your constituency,” he said.
He highlighted education, youth development, and environmental management as key areas of focus, noting that community enlightenment would play a major role in addressing challenges such as poor sanitation and drainage.
Adeyemo added that his familiarity with the constituency puts him in a better position to address its challenges, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, infrastructure, and social welfare.
He, however, urged the media and the electorate to hold him accountable, insisting that leadership must be judged by performance.
“When we talk about inclusion and balance, from 2003 to 2019—16 uninterrupted years—Honourable Adefunmilayo Tejuosho, a woman, represented us with dignity and even rose to become Deputy Speaker. Now, the future is something we must shape together. I am ready to serve and deliver results that our people can see and feel,” he added.
In his remarks, a member of Ward C in Odi-Olowo LCDA, Mr. Anyiwe Christ, described Owoeye Adeyemo as a grassroots politician with remarkable achievements and the capacity to serve as an intermediary between the government and the people.
