ADC Primary: Oyefusi heads to court over Lagos gov’ship ticket

A fresh dispute has emerged within the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Lagos State following the outcome of the party’s governorship primary election held on May 22, 2026.

One of the aspirants, Princess Islamiyat Oyefusi, has approached a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, challenging the emergence of Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour as the party’s governorship candidate.
In a statement through her legal representatives, Platinum & Taylor Hill LP, Oyefusi alleged that there were irregularities in the conduct and collation of the primary election results.

According to the statement, Oyefusi claimed she secured the majority of votes cast during the direct primary but was not declared winner by the party.

Her lawyers further alleged that issues surrounding the screening process and collation of results formed part of the grievances now before the court.

The statement noted that the legal action seeks declaratory and injunctive reliefs regarding what the claimant described as constitutional, electoral and procedural concerns arising from the primary election.
Oyefusi’s legal team called on the National Working Committee of the ADC to review the outcome of the exercise and recognise what it described as the authentic result of the primary.

The lawyers also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure compliance with electoral guidelines and due process in the submission of candidates by political parties.

However, there was no immediate response from the ADC leadership or Mr. Rhodes-Vivour regarding the allegations at the time of filing this report.

The development is coming amid preparations by political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections in Lagos State.
