Aboyeji harps on strong foundations, godly guidance at Switch 5.0

The General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Dr. Sam Aboyeji, has emphasised the need for solid spiritual foundations and divine guidance in choosing a life partner, warning that wrong choices in marriage often stem from neglecting biblical principles.

Speaking at the just-concluded Switch 5.0, Aboyeji anchored his message on key scriptural references, stressing that marriage decisions must be rooted in God’s word and not emotions or societal pressure.

Drawing from 1 Corinthians 3:10, he underscored the importance of laying the right foundation when searching for a spouse, noting that “any structure built on a faulty foundation is bound to fail.”

He added that just as buildings are exposed to the same weather conditions, marriages also face similar challenges, but only those built on strong foundations endure.

Referencing Genesis 2:18, the cleric described the Bible as the “manufacturer’s manual” for marriage, insisting that adherence to its principles remains the surest guide for a successful union.

Aboyeji further cited Jeremiah 33:3 to highlight the importance of hearing from God before making marital choices. He cautioned against setting unrealistic expectations, stating that “not every man can be your husband and not every woman can be your wife.”

While noting that perfection does not exist in humans, he maintained that individuals must strive for personal maturity and responsibility to make their marriages work.

The cleric outlined practical steps for those considering marriage, including consistent prayers, consulting the word of God as advised in 2 Corinthians 6:14, seeking godly counsel, and gathering adequate information before making a decision.
He reiterated that careful preparation and spiritual discernment remain critical to building lasting and fulfilling marriages.
