Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has received a political boost ahead of the 2027 general elections, following the purchase and donation of his Nomination and Expression of Interest forms by stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other influential figures in the state.
A delegation led by Awaji-Inombek Abiante, who represents Andoni/Opobo-Nkoro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, disclosed on Thursday that elders and political leaders across Rivers State jointly took the decision in what they described as the overriding interest of the people.
Abiante dismissed suggestions of impropriety, noting that the move aligns with established political practices where stakeholders support preferred candidates.
“This is not new. Even at the national level, stakeholders have, in the past, procured nomination forms for candidates. It reflects the collective will of the people,” he said.
He stressed that the gesture signals widespread confidence in Governor Fubara’s leadership, adding that it was driven by public sentiment rather than financial considerations.
“It is not about how deep your pocket is; it is about what the people feel. Rivers people are clearly asking for continuity,” he stated.
The lawmaker highlighted what he described as the governor’s achievements, including infrastructure development, improved access to underserved communities, and expanding economic opportunities, particularly in riverine areas.
“In places like Andoni, access was once a major challenge. Within months, that changed. Communities that were cut off are now connected and contributing to the blue economy,” he said.
He also cited the rehabilitation of key government facilities, including the State Secretariat, alongside broader improvements in citizens’ welfare as evidence of focused governance.
Beyond infrastructure, Abiante described Fubara as a humble and accessible leader, responsive to the needs of the people.
“This is a leader who understands the pains of his people and takes action,” he added.
He further disclosed that the governor neither initiated nor influenced the move, insisting it was a voluntary decision by stakeholders.
“He did not send us. This is the voice of the people expressed through their leaders,” he said.
According to him, the message across Rivers State is clear: the governor should seek re-election.
“The people have invested their resources in this cause. He cannot turn his back on them. Rivers people are firmly behind him,” he declared.
The stakeholders are expected to formally present the nomination forms to the governor on Friday, May 1, 2026, a move likely to shape the political landscape in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections.
