Miva Open University, in partnership with the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation, have awarded the first 200 beneficiaries of the Gbemisola Olowolafe Miva Scholarship.

This milestone reinforces both organisations’ shared mission to expand access to quality education to transform communities, grounded in the belief that when access is equal, opportunities can be too.

The scholarship is part of a ¦ 1 billion, five-year initiative to support 1,000 talented individuals who demonstrate academic potential but require financial support to pursue their undergraduate degrees.

In March, over 1,700 applications were received from students across Nigeria. Following a rigorous selection process, 200 beneficiaries were chosen based on academic potential, financial need, and clearly defined educational goals, reflecting a diverse and representative cohort.

The vice chancellor of Miva Open University, Professor Tayo Arulogun, noted that the milestone reflects a commitment to expanding access to quality education. “This initiative ensures that capable students are not limited by financial barriers.”

Founder of the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation, Dr Tunji Olowolafe, noted that the scholarship supports long-term human capital development.

Both organisations congratulated the selected beneficiaries and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting their academic journey.

The scholarship programme will continue in phases towards supporting 1,000 students, with the partnership playing a vital role in equipping young Nigerians with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to society.
