LONDON — Dauda Lawal has been named Outstanding Governor of the Year by Triangle Media International Magazine during its 10th annual lecture and awards ceremony held at King’s College, London, United Kingdom.

The event, themed “Harnessing the Roles of Nigerians in Diaspora for National Development,” brought together prominent figures from the public and private sectors.

In a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the award was described as recognition of Governor Lawal’s leadership and impactful governance since taking office on May 29, 2023.

“Governor Lawal has remained committed to his ‘Rescue Agenda’ aimed at rebuilding Zamfara State,” the statement said, highlighting the administration’s efforts despite a challenging financial environment.

Key interventions recognized include the declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector, payment of N3.4 billion in outstanding WAEC and NECO examination fees, and the reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools across all 14 local government areas. These initiatives were noted as strategic measures to improve education and tackle underlying factors contributing to insecurity in the state.

The 2026 award coincided with the 10th anniversary of Triangle Media International Magazine, which honors outstanding Africans across various sectors annually.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and Kola Adesina, among others.

Governor Lawal’s recognition underscores the administration’s focus on service delivery, development, and security-oriented reforms in Zamfara State.
