Ambassador Yerima Shettima, Convener of the Northern Stakeholders Consultative Initiative (NSCI), has reaffirmed his intention to contest the Kaduna Central Senatorial seat, dismissing reports of an “anointed candidate” within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing stakeholders, Shettima described the claims as “sponsored and malicious,” insisting that he remains firmly in the race and committed to providing effective representation for the people of Kaduna Central.
He expressed confidence in Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, stating his belief that both leaders would ensure a level playing field for all aspirants within the party.
Shettima called for strict adherence to democratic principles, urging the APC leadership to conduct free, fair, and transparent primaries. He emphasized that party stakeholders should be allowed to choose candidates based on merit and capacity.
According to him, any process that undermines internal democracy could weaken public confidence in the party.
While expressing optimism about the APC’s prospects in future elections, Shettima stressed the importance of fairness in securing victory.
He also appealed to party members and supporters to remain calm amid ongoing speculations, assuring them of his continued commitment to the contest.
On the issue of consensus candidacy, Shettima noted that such an arrangement must be reached through broad consultation involving all aspirants.
He pledged to respect the outcome of the party primaries, provided they are conducted in line with due process and the party’s constitution, while reaffirming his loyalty to the APC.
Shettima further urged Nigerians to continue supporting the administration of President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, noting that his ambition is driven by a desire to deliver people-oriented representation for Kaduna Central.
