Gloria Effiong, known to her growing audience as Riayung, describes herself as someone sustained by grace—a sister, a daughter, a “by force” mother, and a young woman intentional about living a peaceful and impactful life.
“At my core, I’m just a regular human who desires a simple, happy life,” she says. “Beyond Riayung, I’m a young woman who longs for real friendships, genuine, meaningful connections, and a life that matters.”
Originally from Akwa Ibom State but raised in Abuja, Gloria grew up in a Christian home rooted in strong values. While music was not central to her upbringing, she recalls that her mother once considered pursuing it professionally.
“The values I was raised with shaped my mindset. Straying from them was never really an option,” she said.
Before TikTok became her platform, Gloria explored several creative and entrepreneurial paths.
“I made pancakes, sewed, drew a lot—drawing was actually a big part of me. Anyone who knew me in school would’ve said I was going to become an artist. I also dabbled in fashion design, network marketing, track athletics, and dance ministry in church,” she explained.
Her journey into TikTok began casually during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she started posting random videos using a basic phone, mostly for personal enjoyment.
A turning point came in 2022 when a friend gifted her an iPhone XR, enabling her to create more intentional content. However, it was not until October 2023, after a month-long personal retreat, that she felt a clear spiritual direction to dedicate her platform to gospel content.
“I received the same instruction from God, confirmed through about three different people, that I should dedicate my TikTok page to Him,” she said. “The idea was to use dance—something often misrepresented—as a tool to spread the message of Christ. At first, it felt strange; I had no blueprint, but I trusted God, and He guided me every step of the way.”
Within six months of consistently posting gospel-focused content, her following grew significantly—from 30,000 to 100,000.
“It didn’t feel like something I achieved on my own; it truly felt like God’s hand was leading me,” she added.
Reflecting on her journey, Gloria noted that going viral helped her understand the difference between fleeting attention and staying true to her values.
“The first time I went viral was with a secular song. It pushed my following to 10k, but it didn’t feel aligned. The second viral moment was a Christian song, and that felt right. That moment helped me see what truly matters—staying authentic to who I am,” she said.
Faith remains central to her content and purpose.
“My goal is to build a space where Christians can enjoy life while living in alignment with their purpose. It’s about sharing God’s love in a way that feels real and relatable. For me, that’s ministry expressed unconventionally,” she explained.
Beyond entertainment, her content continues to inspire and influence others.
“I often receive messages about the joy people feel watching my videos. Some have told me my content encouraged them to start creating for God—whether through dance, sharing their faith, or being more intentional online. Hearing ‘because of you, I started’ is always special; it reminds me it’s bigger than me,” she said.
Her growing platform has also opened unexpected opportunities, including meeting gospel leaders she once admired and securing international brand deals.
Despite the rising visibility, Gloria remains grounded in her faith, drawing inspiration from Matthew 6:33: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all other things shall be added unto you.”
Looking ahead, Riayung envisions her platform as a space for transformation and spiritual impact.
“I want hearts to be healed and chains broken, even just from watching a video. There are still so many souls to reach, and that keeps me going. I’ll continue showing up consistently and intentionally, letting God meet people right where they are—even on their FYP,” she said.
With a blend of creativity, faith, and authenticity, Gloria Effiong is demonstrating that the gospel can thrive in unexpected spaces—and that viral content can carry a deeper, meaningful message.
