PIDAN condemns attack on Angwan Rukuba, urges swift justice

Jos – The Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of the Natives (PIDAN) has strongly condemned the deadly attack on Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area, describing the incident as a grave threat to peace and security in Plateau State.

The attack, which occurred on the evening of 29 March 2026, reportedly left at least 27 people dead, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment in medical facilities across Jos.

In a statement issued on Monday and jointly signed by its President, Ambassador Danjuma Sheni, and Secretary General, Danjuma Auta, the organisation decried the killings as senseless and unjustifiable.

“These killings are barbaric, unprovoked, and a direct assault on the peace and security of Plateau State,” the statement reads.

PIDAN expressed concern over what it described as persistent attacks on communities in the State, warning that the situation has become intolerable for residents.

“The continuous killing of Plateau people by criminal militias is no longer acceptable. We once again implore the government and security agencies to take immediate and decisive action to stop these attackers,” the group stated.

It further cautioned that the patience of the people is being stretched to its limits, stressing the urgent need for authorities to restore confidence in the security architecture.

“The patience of the people of Plateau has reached its zenith. We cannot continue to fold our arms while innocent lives are lost in our communities at the hands of enemies of peace,” the statement added.

The group called on both the Federal and Plateau State Governments, as well as security agencies, to ensure that those responsible for the attack are apprehended and prosecuted without delay.

“We call on the Federal Government, the Plateau State Government, and all relevant security agencies to immediately apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous attack and bring them to justice,” PIDAN said.

While condemning the violence, the organisation also acknowledged the response of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, commending his visit to the affected community to sympathise with victims and their families.

“We commend Governor Caleb Mutfwang for taking prompt steps to visit the scene of the attack and commiserate with the victims, their families, and the Angwan Rukuba community,” the statement noted.

PIDAN extended its condolences to the bereaved families and the wider Plateau community, urging unity and resilience in the face of the tragedy.

“Our heartfelt condolences go to the families of the victims and the entire Angwan Rukuba community. We stand in solidarity with them during this difficult time,” the statement concluded.
