
…police confirm arrest of two suspects

A clash between members of the Agbekoya group and commercial motorcycle riders, popularly known as Okada riders, has left one person dead in Oyo State.
The incident, which occurred at about 7 p.m., resulted in the death of an Okada rider identified simply as Awo, while others were reportedly injured in the violence.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the confrontation escalated rapidly following a disagreement between the two groups.
The situation reportedly degenerated into violence, with weapons allegedly used during the altercation.
Residents described scenes of chaos as the clash unfolded, forcing many to flee for safety.
“We suddenly heard shouting and people running. Before we knew what was happening, weapons were already being used. It was terrifying,” a resident said.
Another witness added, “The fight became intense within minutes. People were injured, and one person was lying motionless before the police arrived.”
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the command had swiftly intervened and made arrests in connection with the clash.
“Concerning the clash between Okada riders and Agbekoya around 7 p.m. this evening resulting in the death of one Okada rider known only as Awo, the Oyo State Police Command has arrested two Agbekoya. An investigation is ongoing to arrest the remaining one,” he said.
He added that normalcy had been restored to the affected area.
“Meanwhile, the situation has been brought under control,” Ayanlade stated.
The police assured residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects involved in the incident and urged members of the public to remain law-abiding.
