BENIN CITY – The direct descendants of late Sir Ededuna Walter Obaseki of the Benin Kingdom have appealed to the Federal Government and Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in securing their patriarch’s entitlements reportedly trapped in the United Kingdom following his service during World War II.
The family made the appeal in a statement issued by Mercy Ededuna Obaseki in Benin City, where they also congratulated the President on his 74th birthday and commended his recent official visit to the UK, expressing hope that it would yield benefits for Nigeria and its citizens.
In the statement, the family urged the President to sustain efforts at repositioning Nigeria’s economy while also considering their request for support and empowerment.
“We, the direct descendants of Sir Ededuna Walter Obaseki, heartily congratulate His Excellency President Bola Tinubu on the occasion of his birthday,” the statement read.
They described the late Obaseki as a man who made significant contributions during his lifetime, noting that his entitlements, which should have been passed on to his heirs, remain inaccessible in the UK.
“We appeal for presidential intervention, as our father served the British meritoriously and used his influence to support many Nigerians while he was alive,” the statement added.
The family further urged the President not to relent in efforts to improve Nigeria’s economy and to leave a legacy of strong leadership and administrative excellence.
They also welcomed him back from his UK visit, describing it as historic and expressing optimism that it would foster stronger international relationships and deliver mutual benefits for Nigeria and other developed nations.
