President Tinubu

ABUJA — A Niger Delta advocacy group, the 21st Century Youths of Niger Delta and Agitators with Conscience (21st CYNDAC), has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to disregard calls for the decentralisation of the pipeline surveillance contract, warning that such a move could undermine stability in the region.
In a statement issued by its Coordinator, Izon Ebi, the group expressed support for the current pipeline surveillance arrangement handled by Tantita Security Services, a firm linked to Oweizidei Government Ekpemupolo.
The group argued that decentralising the contract could create operational challenges and potentially disrupt ongoing efforts to secure oil infrastructure in the Niger Delta.
According to the statement, the current structure has contributed to improved surveillance outcomes, environmental restoration efforts, and increased employment opportunities for youths in the region.
“The existing pipeline surveillance framework has delivered measurable progress in safeguarding critical oil assets and engaging local communities,” the group said.
21st CYNDAC also emphasised the need to sustain peace and stability in the Niger Delta, particularly as the country approaches another election cycle, noting that policy decisions affecting the region should prioritise long-term security and development.
The group further urged the Federal Government to maintain the current arrangement while continuing to strengthen oversight and accountability mechanisms in the sector.
Reaffirming its position, the group stated that preserving the existing surveillance structure would support ongoing gains in curbing oil theft and enhancing community participation in the protection of national assets.
