NIDOA South Savannah, USA Announces Award for Education Minister; Commends One-Year Transformational Impact

The Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Americas (NIDOA), South Savannah, Georgia Chapter, has announced the choice of Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, Minister of Education of Nigeria for the NIDO Americas Ministerial Impact Award (Education Sector) for his outstanding achievements in his one year in office.

In a statement by Collins Ikegwuonu, President, Dr. Tomi Ademokun, Vice President of the Chapter, the Organization said the Minister, who was a distinguished Medical Practitioner in Chicago, USA, before his appointment by President Bola Tinubu was also being honored for his exemplary representation of diaspora excellence in governance.

The Chapter said it had recognized “the exceptional leadership and transformational achievements” of the Education Minister “in his impactful first year in office,” stressing that “as a distinguished leader from the diaspora, Dr. Alausa represents the excellence and global impact of Nigerian professionals abroad, making the Nigerian-American diaspora proud through his service, innovation, and commitment to national development.

“Drawing from verified policy updates, official ministry reports, and public communications, NIDOA South Savannah highlighted the achievements of the Minister in the one year since his assumption of office that has been “defined by bold reforms, measurable outcomes, and a renewed national vision for education.” The chapter listed the promises made by the Minister that have been kept to include System Reforms:•Transition from 6-3-3-4 to a modern 12-year basic education model, •80% practical / 20% theory shift in technical education and •Introduction of data-driven education planning systems.

NIDOA South Savannah also noted achievements in the area of Access & Funding, including:•Launch of Student Loan Scheme (NELFUND) which is expanding access, •$552M secured for basic education (HOPE-EDU) and•₦2.4 trillion proposed education budget (2026).

Also Infrastructure Boost including: •~4,900 new classrooms constructed, •~3,000 classrooms renovated, •353,000+ furniture units distributed, and •Impact reaching over 2.3 million learners.

Expanding Access: •University capacity increased from 750,000 to 1,000,000 students annually, •Free technical education with stipends introduced and •Expansion of girls’ education initiatives (AGILE program).Teacher & Labor Stability: •ASUU agreement reducing recurring strikes, •40% salary increase for academic staff, and •Improved stability across universities. Skills & Employment: •5M+ youth targeted for vocational training, •960,000+ TVET applications processed and •58,000 youth matched to training centers Digital Transformation: •National Education Data System launched, •Transparency Portal (FTIGTP) introduced, and •Nationwide digital literacy expansion.Policy & Curriculum Reform: •History reinstated as a core subject, •STEM and entrepreneurship prioritized, and •Curriculum redesigned for innovation and workforce readinessGovernance & Accountability: •Strengthened TETFund accountability, •Performance-based funding systems implemented and •Education Sector Reform Agenda (NESRI) launched, and Big Picture Impact: •Addressing out-of-school children crisis, •Advancing Nigeria toward a knowledge-based economy, and •Aligning education with global standards

The chapter noted that the  Ministerial Impact Award is being celebrated under the theme “Driving Innovation, Access & National Progress,” and would be honoring Dr. Alausa for “his visionary leadership, commitment to educational reform, and his role as a diaspora trailblazer contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s progress on the global stage.”NIDOA South Savannah, affirmed  its continued support for policies and leadership that empower Nigerian youth, strengthen institutions, and drive sustainable national progress—both at home and across the diaspora, said further that the Education Minister would, as part of the presentation, share a video message to the diaspora community highlighting his vision for Nigeria’s education future, opportunities for diaspora collaboration and continued reforms and impact.
