We published a story, “Veteran coach, Lawrence Akpokona bedridden, seeks medical assistance” on 3 April 2026.

However, it has come to our knowledge that the claims that “his condition remains critical, requiring urgent medical intervention and financial support” are untrue, and offend the sensibilities of his family, as they were “unsubstantiated and misleading” claims by the group that released a statement.

Therefore, we apologise for the story and the image used with it. But the intention for publication was wholly humanitarian and not to cause the family grief, or cast his children in a bad light.

We shall cease and desist from publishing, sharing or spreading further information about the health and financial condition of Mr. Lawrence Akpokona.
