The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward Chairmen Forum in Kwara Central Senatorial District has endorsed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for a senatorial bid in the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced on Wednesday during a press conference held at the NUJ Press Centre in Ilorin, the state capital.
Speaking on behalf of the forum, Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Baba Gobir said the decision reflected the collective position of ward chairmen across the state, citing the governor’s leadership record and developmental strides.
Gobir commended AbdulRazaq, who also serves as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, for his commitment to democratic values, good governance, and inclusive development.
He also praised the Kwara APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, for promoting unity and discipline within the party.
The forum lauded the conduct of the party’s recent ward, local government, and state congresses, describing them as peaceful and transparent.
“As grassroots leaders, we have witnessed firsthand the numerous people-centred initiatives and impactful projects executed under this administration, including infrastructure development and youth and women empowerment programmes,” Gobir said.
According to him, ward chairmen in Kwara Central unanimously backed the governor’s potential move to the National Assembly as a way to sustain purposeful leadership and ensure effective representation.
“This decision is driven by a collective desire to see continuity of experience and people-oriented governance at a higher level,” he added.
The forum reaffirmed its loyalty to the APC leadership in the state and pledged to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 elections, urging party members to remain united.
Gobir also expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the 2027 polls, describing the elections as favourable for the APC at both national and state levels.
He attributed this optimism to the performance of APC-led administrations, including that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the federal level and Governor AbdulRazaq in Kwara State.
According to him, ongoing reforms, infrastructure development, and social intervention programmes have strengthened public confidence and reduced the influence of opposition parties.
“With the progress recorded across key sectors, Nigerians are more inclined to sustain the current leadership. The opposition lacks the structure and track record to convince the electorate otherwise,” he said.
Gobir added that the APC’s strong grassroots presence and mobilisation structures across wards would ensure continued dominance and expanded electoral victories in 2027.
The forum also urged the governor to ensure that his successor remains committed to prudent management of state resources for the benefit of the people of Kwara.
