Former presidential aspirant and Convener of the YesWeFit Revolutionary Movement, Dr. Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, has called on Nigerian leaders to adopt a more sacrificial and people-oriented approach to governance, in line with the example set by Jesus Christ.
In his Good Friday message, Ikubese urged political leaders to be forthright and revolutionary in their thinking, stressing the need to prioritise the welfare of citizens above personal or sectional interests.
He noted that the death of Christ represents the ultimate symbol of sacrifice and commitment to a higher purpose, adding that leaders must be ready to fulfil their mandates despite challenges.
“I felicitate with Christians all over the world on this auspicious occasion. During His earthly journey, Christ lived a modest and sacrificial life, laying down His life for the salvation of mankind,” he said.
According to Ikubese, this act of sacrifice underscores the responsibility of leaders to serve selflessly and remain committed to their duties regardless of obstacles.
He cautioned against governance driven by narrow interests, urging leaders instead to pursue policies that promote collective progress and national development.
“I appeal to our political leaders to be forthright and revolutionary in their thinking to advance a positive course for society, and not dance to the tune of a fraction whose minds have been corrupted by age-long misgovernance,” he added.
Ikubese also referenced the biblical account of the crowd choosing Barabbas over Jesus, describing it as a reflection of societal challenges where truth and righteousness are sometimes overlooked.
He further encouraged Christians to reflect on the virtues of sacrifice, truth, and uprightness demonstrated by Christ, and to embody these values in their daily lives.
He concluded by wishing Christians a peaceful and fulfilling Easter celebration.
