A political support group, APC Grassroots Vanguard for Good Governance, has thrown its weight behind the 2027 governorship aspiration of Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, citing his leadership capacity and growing grassroots support across the state.

Coordinator of the group, Danladi Umar, said in a statement on Friday that the endorsement was informed by the senator’s political maturity, commitment to party unity, and consistent contributions to Borno’s development through empowerment and intervention initiatives.

It said these efforts have earned him widespread acceptance and endorsements from key stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state.

The group recalled that Senator Lawan demonstrated loyalty and statesmanship in 2019 when he stepped down his gubernatorial ambition to support the emergence of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum as the party’s flag bearer, a move it said strengthened party cohesion and contributed to the APC’s electoral success.

“As Borno gradually looks beyond Governor Zulum’s tenure, the search for a credible successor has intensified. In this regard, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan stands out as a tested and trusted leader with a deep understanding of the state’s challenges,” the statement said.

The group also commended the senator’s performance at the National Assembly, describing him as “remarkable, accessible, and committed to policies that promote peace, reconstruction, and socio-economic development in post-insurgency Borno.”

It further noted that Lawan enjoys the blessings of critical stakeholders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governor Zulum, and members of both the state and national assemblies, an indication of strong confidence in his leadership.

Beyond elite endorsements, the group emphasised that the senator’s growing acceptance at the grassroots remains a defining strength, positioning him as a unifying figure capable of consolidating ongoing recovery and development efforts.

It urged the APC to prioritise credibility, competence, and inclusiveness in selecting its candidate, stressing that Borno’s stability and future progress depend on visionary and people-oriented leadership which senator Kaka Shehu Lawan can render effectively.
