APM distances self from purported APC endorsement by local leaders

The Akure Progressive Movement (APM), led by former Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Hon. Afolabi Akinbowale, has disowned a press statement issued by a group claiming to represent leaders of Akure South and endorsing aspirants for the House of Representatives and House of Assembly.

The group, said to be led by Mr. Tony Alla and others, claimed to be speaking on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.

“We categorically reject this claim in its entirety,” the APM said.
The movement affirmed that the recognised leadership of the APC in Akure South consists of longstanding and respected party figures, including Dr. Samuel Bankole Akerele, Chairman of the Elders Council; Otunba Omolade Oluwateru, former Deputy Governor; Asiwaju Sunday Abegunde, Executive Director, Corporate Services, NDDC; Prof. Olu Aderounmu; Basorun Ifadayo Adedipe (SAN); Engr. Oluwamuyiwa Ogunleye; Hon. Afe Olowookere; Arch. Jide Adejuyigbe; and Hon. Sir Ademola Adegoroye, among others.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Dr. S. B. Akerele remains the recognised leader of the APC in Akure South. Any contrary claim should be disregarded,” it added.

The APM dissociated itself from the group’s actions, urging members of the public and party faithful to remain vigilant and avoid being misled.

It also called for unity within the party, stressing the need to uphold discipline and respect established leadership structures.
