Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government has held its maiden Ajegunle Easter Fiesta, using the platform to promote communal unity and reinforce the “Renewed Hope” agenda of its administration.
The event, themed “Enabling Renewed Hope and Fostering Communal Unity,” brought together residents, religious groups and community stakeholders in Ajegunle, in what the council described as a strategic effort to strengthen social cohesion and drive grassroots development.
Speaking at the fiesta, the Chairman of the council, Dr. Akindipe Olalekan Olu, said Easter represents more than a religious celebration, describing it as a symbol of hope, renewal and victory over adversity.
“Easter is more than a celebration; it is a powerful reminder that light will always overcome darkness, hope will always rise above despair, and after every season of sacrifice comes a new dawn of joy and renewal,” he said.
He noted that the fiesta aligns with his administration’s vision of building unity across religious, cultural and social divides, adding that the gathering underscores a shared commitment to peaceful coexistence and collective progress.
According to him, the council is translating the message of Easter into tangible development through infrastructure projects, youth empowerment initiatives, and support programmes for women and vulnerable groups.
“Our administration remains committed to turning hope into real progress. From infrastructure development to youth empowerment and community-driven initiatives, we are building a local government that works for everyone,” Olu said.
He further highlighted ongoing and planned projects within the council area, including road construction, a proposed Computer-Based Test and ICT centre with over 700 capacity, and a primary healthcare centre of international standard.
The chairman also acknowledged the role of the Federal Government’s policies in enhancing local government capacity, urging residents to sustain support for leadership that prioritises development and continuity.
The fiesta featured a mix of religious and cultural activities, including drama presentations on the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the council’s Renewed Hope agenda, alongside welfare and empowerment packages distributed to residents.
Musical performances added colour to the event, with appearances by gospel artistes such as Adeyinka Alaseyori and Toluwani Sings, as well as performances by K-Leb Shout, Ifelodun Choir Group and other emerging artistes. Comic stage performances by Woli Agba also entertained attendees.
Residents described the fiesta as a unifying platform that not only celebrated the Christian faith but also fostered stronger community bonds in Ajegunle.
The council said the initiative would be sustained as an annual event aimed at deepening unity, encouraging mutual respect among diverse groups, and promoting inclusive development across Ajeromi-Ifelodun.
