UMUAHIA – The Abia State caucus of the African Democratic Congress,ADC, has distanced the party from the actions of Mr. Don Norman Obinna, stressing that he lacks the authority to act or speak as the party chairman in the state.

Making the declaration after a meeting at the ADC State Secretariat in Umuahia, party leaders including Senator Austin Akobundu; Hon. Uko Nkole; Hon. Okey Igwe, amongst others;,said they have reviewed the leadership situation and stated their commitment to due process, internal discipline, and the rule of law.

Nkole, who read the statement on behalf of the Abia ADC caucus, drew attention to a subsisting order of the Abia State High Court which, through an interim injunction dated December 3, 2025, restrains Obinna from parading himself or acting in any capacity as chairman of the party in the state, pending the determination of the case.

However,Don Norman Obinna said the alleged court order restraining him as state chairman, has been vacated. He explained that he’s still the state chairman of the ADC in the state.

The party leaders said; “We align with the findings of the ADC South-East Zonal Disciplinary Committee report of September 25, 2025, which clarified the party’s stance on his conduct and status.

”Consequently, Obinna’s actions is unlawful and misleading, stressing that his continued claim to leadership amounts to a violation of party discipline and contempt of a valid court order. Meeting, directives, or public engagements conducted by him in the name of the party are null and void.”

The ADC also leaders affirmed Mazi Kanu O. Kanu as the Acting State Chairman of the party in the State, pending the conduct of the party’s state congresses and urged the public, security agencies, and stakeholders to disregard any statements or actions attributed to Obinna in the capacity of ADC chairman in the state.

The caucus also passed a vote of confidence on the party’s national leadership under Senator David Mark and reiterated their commitment to unity, discipline, and adherence to constituted authority across all levels of the party.
