Vitus Okechi, a former commissioner and ex-local government chairman, has been elected Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State, pledging to reposition the party and restore its political dominance.

Okechi’s election took place at the PDP State Congress on March 14, where delegates convened to select new party executives. Party stakeholders described his emergence as a strategic move to strengthen leadership and foster unity within the state chapter.

In his acceptance speech, Okechi expressed gratitude to party members for their confidence and vowed to lead an inclusive administration that accommodates all interests within the PDP.

He highlighted plans to rebuild grassroots structures across the state, drawing on his experience as both a commissioner and a local government chairman.

“Our priority is to reunite the party, energise our base, and put the PDP back on the path of victory in Enugu State,” Okechi said.

He urged party members to remain loyal and disciplined, emphasizing that collective effort would be crucial to achieving the party’s objectives.

Party stakeholders expressed optimism that Okechi’s leadership experience at state and local levels would strengthen the PDP’s position ahead of upcoming elections. Observers noted that his election signals a renewed drive to regain the party’s political relevance in Enugu State.
