ABUJA — The National Coordinator of the Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative (GMI), Sama’ila Musa, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies as courageous and necessary for Nigeria’s long-term growth.
Musa highlighted the removal of fuel subsidies and subsequent reforms as critical steps toward addressing structural distortions that previous administrations failed to resolve.
Speaking in Abuja, he acknowledged the current economic challenges but pointed to positive indicators, including rising non-oil revenue and increasing foreign reserves, as signs of progress in diversifying the economy and stabilizing macroeconomic foundations.
The coordinator dismissed claims that savings from subsidy removal were being misused for political purposes, calling them unsubstantiated.
“Several past leaders considered removing the subsidy but withdrew due to pressure or fear of losing public goodwill. Even during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, attempts were made but not sustained. However, President Tinubu took decisive action from day one,” Musa said.
He emphasized that sustainable national growth requires patience, cautioning against expecting immediate relief at the expense of long-term stability.
Looking toward 2027, Musa expressed confidence that grassroots mobilisation—through community engagement and local networks—would play a decisive role in shaping electoral outcomes and countering public skepticism.
