Rtd Army General, Atewe demands removal of photo in online report

By Gabriel Ewepu

Former Nigerian Army General Emmanuel Atewe has called on an online news outlet to immediately remove his photograph from a report in which it was wrongly used.

The article, published on March 9, 2026, carried the headline “N1.65bn fraud: Appeal Court upholds conviction of ex-Army General” but mistakenly featured Gen Atewe’s image, despite the story referring to another individual entirely.

Speaking through his media team, Gen Atewe stressed that he has no connection to the case or the allegations mentioned in the report. “The use of his photograph in a story relating to fraud is false, misleading, damaging, and highly unprofessional,” the statement read.

The team described the incident as a serious editorial lapse, warning that such errors can harm the reputation and integrity of individuals who have served the nation with distinction. They urged the outlet to correct the mistake promptly to prevent further damage.

Gen Atewe’s representatives emphasized that associating his image with allegations of corruption or criminal conduct without factual basis is irresponsible and unacceptable.
