The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has recorded a surge in revenue while seizing billions of naira worth of smuggled goods, reflecting its intensified efforts to protect the nation’s economy.

Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Moses Wale Adewole, told journalists on Thursday at the command’s Ibadan headquarters that the seizures included foreign parboiled rice, used clothing and shoes, tyres, compressors, Tramadol, Indian hemp, Premium Motor Spirit, foreign textiles, sugar, and several used vehicles, with a total Duty Paid Value of N2.53 billion.

“These seizures were made across Oyo and Osun States through credible intelligence and coordinated patrol operations,” Adewole said.

On revenue, he disclosed that the command generated N14.75 billion, a 46.22% increase from N10.1 billion during the same period in 2025. “This achievement reflects our commitment to blocking revenue leakages, ensuring compliance with laws, and facilitating legitimate trade,” he added.

Adewole warned smugglers and economic saboteurs that the command “will not relent in curbing illegal activities” and urged the public to provide useful information to support enforcement.

He also commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, as well as traditional rulers and stakeholders, for promoting lawful trade and public awareness.
