Africa’s voice on global humanitarian and gender equality issues received a boost as Amb. Dr. Richy Onolememen, High Commissioner for Africa at the World Humanity Commission, participated in the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women 70th Session holding at the United Nations Headquarters.

The annual gathering, widely regarded as one of the most influential global platforms on gender equality and women’s empowerment, brings together world leaders, policymakers, and development stakeholders to chart pathways for sustainable development for women and girls.

Onolememen’s participation at the high-level forum is seen as a significant step in amplifying Africa’s contributions to global policy conversations, particularly in areas of humanitarian intervention, gender equity, and inclusive development.

Speaking ahead of the event, he stressed the need for Africa to take a leading role in shaping global narratives, stating, “Africa must not only be part of the conversation but must help lead it. Our realities, our resilience, and our innovations are critical to building a truly inclusive global future for women and humanity at large.”

As High Commissioner for Africa and Special Representative in Nigeria, Onolememen has continued to drive initiatives aimed at promoting grassroots development, strengthening community-based interventions, and aligning local strategies with international development frameworks.

At the ongoing session, he is expected to participate in strategic engagements, high-level dialogues, and collaborative meetings with global partners, with a focus on addressing systemic inequalities, expanding opportunities for women, and advancing sustainable humanitarian solutions across the continent.

The World Humanity Commission, in a statement, described his presence at CSW70 as a milestone in advancing Africa’s humanitarian and developmental agenda on the global stage, reaffirming its commitment to fostering partnerships and promoting human dignity through impactful international advocacy.
