Ogun CP, Ojajuni
…unveils citizen-centred policing agenda
By James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta
The new Police Commissioner of Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, on Monday declared zero tolerance for misconduct, human rights violations and corruption within the force, as he formally addressed officers, stakeholders and the public in his maiden press briefing.
Speaking at the Command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, CP Ojajuni said his administration would be firmly anchored on discipline, professionalism and respect for the rule of law, in line with the policy direction of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu.
“I remain profoundly grateful to the Inspector-General of Police for the confidence reposed in me to serve in this capacity,” he said, adding that the IGP’s directive that “citizens are our bosses” would serve as the cornerstone of his leadership in Ogun State.
The police boss stressed that there would be “zero tolerance for abuse of office, indiscipline, incivility towards members of the public, violations of human rights, and corruption,” describing the directives as “sacrosanct.”
According to him, “discipline remains the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force. I will not condone indiscipline among officers and men under my command. Professionalism, respect for human dignity and strict adherence to the rule of law must define our conduct at all times.”
CP Ojajuni charged officers to treat members of the public with dignity and courtesy, while urging residents to reciprocate with civility and cooperation.
“We must see ourselves as partners in the collective responsibility of maintaining law and order,” he stated.
To ensure accountability, the CP disclosed that the Command would strengthen its internal monitoring mechanisms, with the Complaint Response Unit (CRU), playing a central role.
“The CRU will serve as a key channel through which members of the public can report misconduct and hold officers accountable. It is accessible via telephone and social media platforms,” he said.
He added that the Gateway Shield App and the Command’s Control Room would remain operational round-the-clock to receive complaints and intelligence from the public in real time.
Ojajuni said the X-Squad and the Police Monitoring Unit would be fully deployed to enforce discipline within the ranks.
“There will be no safe haven for misconduct. The few bad eggs within our ranks will not be allowed to drag the good name of the Force into disrepute,” he warned.
Reiterating his commitment to security, the he assured residents that proactive policing strategies would be adopted to guarantee safety across the state.
“The peace and security of Ogun State remain my paramount agenda. I will be accessible, responsive and committed to ensuring a safe environment for all,” he said.
Ojajuni also pledged an inclusive administration, noting that collaboration with traditional rulers, community leaders, the media and other security agencies would be strengthened.
“Fairness, justice and equity will guide all our actions. We urge members of the public to support the Police with credible and timely information to effectively combat crime,” he added.
Addressing officers, he called for renewed dedication to duty, unity of purpose and discipline, while assuring them that their welfare would be prioritized.
“To the officers and men of the Command, I charge you to brace yourselves for the task ahead. We must work with renewed vigour and unity to achieve our collective goals. As a welfarist, your welfare will receive utmost priority,” he said.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to sustaining peace and security in the state.
“To the good people of Ogun State, it shall be an unrelenting service to sustain the existing peace and ensure a secure environment for all,” he said.
