ENUGU — The National Youth Alliance (NYA) has been described as one of the most outstanding youth organisations in Nigeria and across Africa, in recognition of its contributions to promoting patriotism, leadership, and good governance.
The General Manager of the Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), Monday Diamond Ani, made the remark while delivering a lecture at the NYA Leadership Symposium and inauguration of South-East Local Government Area coordinators in Enugu.
According to a statement by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the NYA President, Aliyu Bin Abbas, Mr. Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, about 70 coordinators drawn from across the South-East were inaugurated during the event.
Ani noted that despite the existence of numerous youth organisations within and outside Nigeria, the NYA has distinguished itself as a pacesetter through its consistent engagement in youth development and advocacy.
“There are many youth organisations in Nigeria, in Enugu State and across Africa, but the National Youth Alliance stands out. This is not about praise; it is based on experience, having been actively involved in student unionism and youth advocacy over the years,” he said.
Speaking on the theme, “Birthing a New Nigeria: Youth and Women Inclusion in Politics and Governance,” Ani emphasised that leadership demands responsibility, patience, and understanding, adding that effective activism should be anchored on diplomacy and constructive engagement rather than confrontation.
In his welcome address, Abbas highlighted the potential of Nigerian youths, describing them as hardworking and creative, and capable of transforming the country into a global force if properly harnessed.
Also speaking, Jude Udenta, a professor in the Department of Government and Public Administration, warned that Nigeria risks stagnation if youths and women are not adequately integrated into governance.
“Without the active inclusion of youths and women in decision-making, the country may continue to struggle with development challenges,” he said.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, called for increased investment in young people, describing them as vital assets for national development.
He commended the leadership of the NYA for fostering unity and mobilising youths nationwide, urging sustained efforts toward building a more inclusive and progressive society.
