Protesters under the banner of Concerned Niger Delta Stakeholders demonstrated at the National Assembly on Tuesday, urging caution regarding proposed changes to the multi-billion-naira pipeline surveillance contract currently managed by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.
The demonstrators carried placards emphasizing the importance of stability in oil infrastructure and the Niger Delta region.
Speaking to journalists, spokesperson Hon. Duduke Ebitimi highlighted that prior to the current surveillance arrangement, the Niger Delta faced challenges that affected oil production and the local economy. He noted that the current contract has contributed to improved pipeline security, increased oil production, enhanced collaboration with security agencies, and created employment opportunities for local youth.
Ebitimi stressed that any abrupt changes to the contract could disrupt ongoing operations and affect regional stability. He called on the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to carefully evaluate any proposed adjustments to ensure continuity and safeguard critical oil infrastructure.
“It is important that national security and economic stability are maintained while reviewing contracts of strategic importance,” Ebitimi said.
