SOKOTO — The newly appointed District Head of Sanyinna in Tambuwal Local Government Area, Barrister Ibrahim Mohammed Sanyinna, has called on residents to curb extravagant spending on weddings, naming ceremonies, and other social events, describing the practice as a growing burden on families facing economic challenges.

Addressing a large gathering shortly after his turbaning, the traditional ruler urged community members to embrace modesty and responsibility in social events to protect family stability and promote peace within society.

Barrister Sanyinna noted that lavish celebrations often put families under financial pressure and can create unhealthy competition, pushing households into debt. He stressed that promoting modest celebrations would strengthen unity, reduce tension among families, and allow communities to focus on productive activities that enhance livelihoods.

He also emphasized the role of traditional institutions in guiding society toward responsible living, particularly at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with rising living costs. The district head pledged to promote peace and security in his domain, calling on farmers, traders, scholars, and youth groups to support initiatives aimed at boosting food security and economic resilience.

The ruler further appealed to Islamic scholars to enlighten communities on cultural practices that conflict with Islamic teachings, especially regarding excessive spending during social ceremonies.

To address development needs, Barrister Sanyinna announced the formation of committees on security, electricity, water provision, and religious affairs to support community development and ensure stability.

He expressed gratitude to the Sokoto State Government and the Sultanate Council, particularly the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, and Governor Ahmed Aliyu, for the opportunity to serve.

Barrister Sanyinna was turbaned alongside other prominent figures, including Bello Ahmed Danbaba, great-grandson of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria Ahmadu Bello, and former Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Lawali Labbo Marghai. Also turbaned was Ahmed Barade
