National Organising Secretary of the Labour Party, Chief Clement Ojukwu has expressed confidence that the party is poised to surpass its outstanding performance in the 2023 general elections in the coming months.

In a telephone interview with Vanguard, on Monday, Ojukwu who is arguably the longest serving member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of any political party in Nigeria predicted that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) will implode in a couple of months.

He also predicted that a large number of politician who were hoodwinked into joining the APC will soon become political orphans or retire from politics altogether.

Ojukwu who has since pledged loyalty to the Senator Nenadi Usman-led Labour Party said, “All those people jumping into the APC will soon regret their actions.

“Such politicians are simply impatient because when you leave a party on whose platform you were elected because it finds itself in opposition are you not going to meet human beings in the party you are jumping into?

“I’m the longest serving member of the NWC of any political party in Nigeria. I have a lot of experience in party management and have come to realize that the problem of parties is usually caused by people who jump into them to get tickets in order to contest elections.

“The APC and the ADC lack the capacity to contain every Nigerian politician. In every election you can only have one Governor, three Senators and maybe six or ten Reps members and about 30 or so members of the State Assembly.

“Take this from me, we may not even get to 2027, many politicians will become homeless. The amended Electoral Act says you must be a member of a political party at least 21 days before primaries to be able to participate.

“This has removed the provision of weaver which has been used and abused over the years. If you lose primaries in one party you no longer enjoy the luxury of jumping into another party to contest in the same election, you have to wait another four years.”

Ojukwu further said, “My party, the Labour Party will do well in the coming elections. The APC and the ADC will soon implode because Nigerians who kept faith with us in 2023 have won over more disciples.”

In response to a question as to whether the LP was afraid of the APC or the ADP, “They should rather be afraid of us”, he quipped.

Speaking in a similar vien, a Chieftain of the party, Chief Peter Ameh said, “We have an ambassador in the person of our national leader, the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.

“His leadership has demonstrated to all what the Labour Party can do and will do when we win the 2027 elections. Make no mistake about it, we are in this race to win.

“Recall, our national chairman, Sen. Nenadi Usman has set the ball rolling by announcing that our presidential ticket will go to a southerner. As a political party, we believe in equity and the oneness of Nigeria.”
