Vocal policy analyst and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress in Anambra State, Pharm. Ikeagwuonwu Chinedu Klinsmann, has launched a fierce attack on the newly unveiled City Boys movement, describing it as a propaganda machinery of the All Progressives Congress designed to distract Nigerians from governance failure, while simultaneously declaring his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia Federal Constituency and throwing his weight behind Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential ambition.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Awka, the Sweden-trained pharmacist and recent APC defector described the City Boys initiative as “a desperate attempt to repackage governance failure through optics and media theatrics.”
“The so-called City Boys project is a classic APC gimmick — a dead project designed solely to change the ugly narrative of their abysmal performance in government. Instead of addressing the hunger, insecurity and economic collapse they have inflicted on Nigerians since 2015, the APC is wasting scarce resources on propaganda mercenaries. This is not governance; it is public relations fraud at the expense of a suffering people,” he said.
Klinsmann cited a recent incident in Owerri, where citizens were seen scrambling for food at a political event, as a defining symbol of the initiative’s moral bankruptcy.
“That shameful scene in Owerri was not an accident. It was a direct product of the hunger manufactured by the APC and Tinubu administration. What kind of government creates poverty and then celebrates when its victims fight for leftovers? That single event has exposed the City Boys for what they are — paid clowns dancing on the graves of the suffering masses,” he declared.
The ADC chieftain also questioned the financial priorities underpinning the movement, alleging that substantial public funds were being diverted into sustaining it at the expense of pressing national challenges.
“Why is the APC not using the billions being funnelled into this fraudulent project to tackle the insecurity ravaging our communities or to provide genuine palliatives? This money could have fixed roads, powered hospitals or secured our borders. But APC prefers optics over results,” he stated.
Turning to what he described as a credible alternative for Nigeria, Klinsmann urged citizens to rally behind Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing him as the only leader with the competence and integrity to reverse the country’s decline.
“Nigerians must rally behind Mr. Peter Obi, the only leader with the competence, integrity and vision to fix the myriads of problems created by the APC and the Tinubu administration. Peter Obi will fix our economy, restore security, create real jobs, fight corruption and return Nigeria to the path of production rather than consumption,” he said.
Klinsmann also pointed to Obi’s record as Anambra State Governor as proof of his readiness for national leadership.
“Peter Obi is not a propagandist; he is a proven manager. As Governor of Anambra, he saved billions, built infrastructure, attracted investors and ran a transparent government without borrowing a kobo for recurrent expenditure,” he added.
Formally announcing his legislative ambition, Klinsmann said his decision to contest the Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia federal constituency seat under the ADC was driven by a commitment to purposeful representation rather than personal gain.
“I am not contesting for personal glory. I am contesting to make impactful laws,” he said, outlining a legislative agenda focused on security, job creation, youth empowerment, women’s rights, agriculture, education, and healthcare.
He closed with a direct appeal to constituents and South East youths to reject what he described as manipulative political tactics and embrace a future defined by accountability and shared prosperity.
“The era of propaganda and failure is coming to an end. The era of competence, accountability and shared prosperity is dawning,” he said.
