Nigeria’s dance icon and fitness coach, Dr Kafayat Shafau, a.k.a Kaffy added another feather to her overflowing cap last week when she launched her new empowerment initiative, ‘Sisters’ Circle’, in commemoration of Women’s Month.
The event brought together women from diverse backgrounds for intimate conversations on holistic health, financial goal-setting, and building stronger communal bonds.
The conference, themed “Wealth. Wellness. Womanhood.”, featured keynote speeches, engaging panel discussions, and a lively atmosphere of healing, love, and sisterhood.
Speakers included Dr. Chizor Maliz, Dr. Tewa Onasanya, Grace Ofure, Uriel Oputa, and popular skit maker Mama Deola, whose grand entrance spiced the event.
Kaffy explained that ‘Sisters’ Circle’ aims to foster confidence and authentic sisterhood among African women, addressing the “directional gap” facing the younger generation.
“We need spaces where those who have gone before us can teach us how to manage people and prioritize our health. The idea comes from my personal experience growing up in Africa. As a young lady, I found myself handling responsibilities meant for grown adults without a nurturing sisterhood to give me a head start”, she said
Kaffy noted that while society is full of high achievers, there is often a silence regarding how to navigate the specific challenges of motherhood and career scaling. According to her, “There is a lot of information overload in society today that is confusing Gen Z. They have a strong sense of self-worth and energy, but they aren’t being nurtured. ‘Sisters’ Circle’ is here to correct that,” she said.
“I do not want a situation where our young women make similar mistakes my generation made.”
According to the dance icon, the initiative seeks to create a community where women can share knowledge, experiences, and support, helping them navigate the challenges of motherhood and career scaling.
“Women can’t continue to live in victimhood,” Kaffy emphasized. “The goal is to build an authentic community of sisters equipped with knowledge and self-awareness.”
