Group seeks probe over alleged misrepresentation

A civic organisation, the Lagos Advocacy Group, LAG, has called for an investigation into allegations involving the member representing Apapa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Samuel Adedayo, over claims of misrepresentation and possible diversion of constituency-related projects and palliatives.

In a press release issued on Monday in Lagos, the group expressed concern over reports that the lawmaker sponsored a bill seeking the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Ajase-Ipo, Kwara State, said to be his hometown, rather than facilitating such a project within Apapa Federal Constituency, which he represents.

The statement was signed by the group’s spokesperson, Kemi Kasumu.

The group described the development, if confirmed, as a potential breach of the duty of representation, noting that elected officials are expected to promote the welfare, development, and collective interests of their constituents.

According to LAG, the reported decision to support the siting of a federal healthcare facility outside Apapa raises ethical and governance concerns, particularly as the constituency faces healthcare infrastructure challenges despite its dense population and economic importance.

The organisation also raised concerns over reports of alleged irregularities in the distribution of palliative materials meant for residents of Apapa. It stated that claims that rice and fertilisers intended to ease economic hardship were poorly distributed or unaccounted for should be thoroughly investigated.

LAG further cited reports alleging intimidation, threats, and disregard for party leadership and internal democratic processes, noting that such actions, if established, could undermine party discipline and institutional values within the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The group urged the Lagos State leadership of the APC, under the chairmanship of Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, to set up an independent, transparent, and time-bound investigation into the allegations.
It also called on the lawmaker to provide a public response to the issues raised, while emphasising that constituency-linked projects should align with the interests of Apapa residents.

According to the group, appropriate measures should be taken if the allegations are substantiated.
LAG also noted reports of growing calls by some constituents for the recall of the lawmaker, describing it as an indication of rising public concern, while acknowledging that recall is a constitutional process.

The advocacy group urged party leaders, civil society organisations, and oversight institutions to address the matter promptly, stressing the need to uphold the integrity of representation, public accountability, and the trust of the electorate.
