The Hope Alive Initiative (HAI), a good governance advocacy group, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts to address Nigeria’s security challenges, particularly his initiative to establish state police in collaboration with state governors.
In a statement issued by its Director of Press and Communications, Mr. Ernest Omoarelojie, HAI called on the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders to accelerate action toward implementing the initiative, describing it as a key step in strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
“Sustainable peace and stability require a multi-layered security strategy that empowers communities while maintaining strong national coordination,” the group said.
HAI noted that many states already operate regional security outfits and vigilante groups, emphasizing that legislative backing for local policing would improve efficiency and cooperation with federal security agencies. The group added that officers familiar with local terrain and communities could respond more effectively to threats while fostering trust between law enforcement and citizens.
The organisation also commended the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) for submitting a proposed framework for state police to the Office of the National Security Adviser, highlighting it as a sign of governors’ readiness to support federal security reforms.
HAI further welcomed Nigeria’s recent security cooperation agreements with the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, noting that the partnerships would enhance training, intelligence sharing, and technological support for Nigerian security agencies. “These partnerships demonstrate international confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and reinforce the fight against terrorism, banditry, and organized crime,” the statement said.
The group praised the Nigerian military for sustaining operations against security threats and urged continued support in equipment and welfare to maintain troop morale.
HAI also highlighted the significance of President Tinubu’s recent state visit to the United Kingdom, hosted by King Charles III, noting that engagement with Nigerian diaspora leaders could stimulate investment, knowledge transfer, and national development.
“These achievements boost the Renewed Hope Initiative’s mission to empower women, youth, and vulnerable communities, expand trade and investment, generate jobs, enhance healthcare cooperation, and strengthen social welfare,” the statement added.
The group called on government institutions, civil society organizations, and citizens to support ongoing reforms aimed at building a secure and prosperous Nigeria.
