ABUJA — The Defence Families Empowerment and Development Trust Fund (DEFEND TRUST FUND) Campaign has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for inaugurating the Armed Forces Fund, describing it as a landmark step toward improving the welfare of military personnel and their families.

In a statement on Monday, the campaign’s Lead Advocate and National Coordinator, Mohammed Usman Thompson, said the initiative represents a major milestone in establishing sustainable support systems for members of the Armed Forces.

He noted that the move reflects the President’s responsiveness to national concerns and his engagement with stakeholders advocating for better welfare for military families.

“The establishment of this Fund demonstrates a clear commitment to improving the lives of those who serve and sacrifice for our nation,” Thompson said.

According to him, the DEFEND Trust Fund Campaign was created to promote a structured welfare framework for military families, particularly widows, spouses, and dependents who often face hardship due to the demands of service.

The group also praised President Tinubu’s decision to donate his salary to the Fund, calling it a demonstration of sincerity, patriotism, and leadership by example.

Thompson urged state governors to emulate the President by contributing meaningfully to the Fund, and called on Service Chiefs and heads of security agencies to ensure its success and sustainability.

He added that collective support for the initiative would boost the morale of military personnel and strengthen their dedication to national security.

The campaign reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Fund’s implementation, transparency, and sustainability, expressing readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure it delivers lasting impact.

It concluded that, if effectively managed, the initiative could significantly enhance the welfare and resilience of military families across Nigeria.
