The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has welcomed the launch of Nigeria’s first Toumai Robotic Surgery platform at Nisa Hospital, Abuja.
Ms. Efosa Eluma, Chief Operating Officer of Robomed, who testified to NAFDAC’s diligence in regulating global medical innovations, said the agency played a crucial role in approving the surgery platform.
Speaking at the launch, Eluma said, “I have first-hand experience of NAFDAC’s diligence when we approached them for Nigeria’s first Toumai Robotic Surgery approval. As we celebrate this milestone, my hope is that more innovators, clinicians, and health entrepreneurs will approach NAFDAC not with fear, but with preparedness and partnership.”
She added, “We collaborated closely with NAFDAC throughout the end-to-end regulatory and operational pathway for the introduction of the Toumai Robotic platform.”
Eluma, who has extensive experience across health-technology platforms in North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, described the milestone as a significant step for medical innovation in Nigeria and a testament to effective regulatory collaboration.
