A coalition of northern youths under the banner of Northern Nigeria United Youths for Peace and Progress has called on Nigerians to adopt constructive engagement in discussions on the country’s security challenges, while expressing support for the leadership of the Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa.

The group made its position known during a press conference in Kaduna on Thursday, where its convener, Edward John Auta, alongside co-conveners Idris Mohammed and Zaradeen Tuge, spoke on the importance of unity in addressing insecurity.

According to the coalition, Nigeria continues to face security challenges, but efforts have been made to improve the situation under the current administration since May 29, 2023. The youths highlighted that Gen. Musa, who previously served as Chief of Defence Staff, has been involved in initiatives to strengthen coordination among security agencies and engage communities in combating insurgency, banditry, and other security threats.

The group encouraged Nigerians to support ongoing security reforms and to avoid statements or actions that could deepen divisions, stressing the need for respectful dialogue in political discourse.

“We support the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security framework and encourage citizens, particularly young people, to engage responsibly in civic matters and cooperate with security agencies where possible,” the coalition said.

The group also expressed optimism that reforms within the Ministry of Defence would continue to enhance coordination among security agencies and contribute to improved security outcomes nationwide.

They appealed to citizens to remain vigilant, united, and committed to collective action, emphasizing that national solidarity is essential in overcoming security challenges.
