A youth organisation, Musawah for Youth and Development Initiative, has called for responsible and constructive public discourse on issues relating to national security.
The group made the appeal during a press conference in Kaduna, where its National Coordinator, Polycarp Gankon, said the briefing became necessary following recent public discussions concerning the country’s security situation.
According to the organisation, the comments circulating in recent days have generated wide debate across online platforms and public spaces.
Gankon noted that while public commentary and criticism are important elements of democratic engagement, discussions on national security matters should be approached with caution and a sense of responsibility.
He described Christopher Gwabin Musa as a career military officer who has served in various operational and strategic roles within Nigeria’s armed forces before his appointment as Minister of Defence.
The group noted that security officials often engage with the public to explain policies and reassure citizens during challenging periods.
It also appealed for constructive national dialogue on security issues, emphasising that such conversations should focus on strengthening national institutions and supporting efforts aimed at addressing the country’s security challenges.
Gankon further encouraged citizens and public commentators to contribute ideas and perspectives that could help improve Nigeria’s security environment.
He expressed optimism that ongoing efforts by the Federal Government under Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address security concerns would continue to receive support from stakeholders across the country.
The organisation stressed that cooperation among citizens, community leaders and security agencies remains vital in confronting insecurity and restoring peace in affected areas.
