The Arewa Youth Assembly (AYA) has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his 74th birthday while commending the “strategic and impactful” leadership of Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

In a statement issued on Sunday, AYA Speaker Mohammed Salihu Danlami said Ajayi’s appointment reflects a commitment to competence, professionalism, and institutional reform within Nigeria’s security sector.

The Assembly highlighted that since taking office in 2024, Ajayi has shifted the DSS from force-heavy operations to a more intelligence-driven framework, emphasizing strategic intelligence gathering, preventive measures, and adherence to due process in security matters.

AYA praised the DSS for renewed compliance with the rule of law, including reviewing prolonged detention cases and releasing individuals held without sufficient legal basis, measures that have helped rebuild public trust and enhance the agency’s credibility.

On operational improvements, the Assembly noted the strengthening of early-warning systems, enhanced community-based intelligence networks, and better coordination with other security agencies, all contributing to more effective responses to emerging threats.

The statement also cited internal reforms, including improved staff welfare, resolution of promotion backlogs, attention to pensions, and the appointment of a female Deputy Director-General, signaling growing gender inclusion. Expanded training and professional development initiatives were also highlighted.

The Assembly further commended the DSS under Ajayi for deepening grassroots engagement through collaboration with traditional institutions and community leaders, as well as improving relations with the media, which has enhanced transparency and earned international recognition.

“The leadership of Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi represents a significant phase in the evolution of the DSS. His tenure reflects a conscious effort to reposition the Service as a modern, intelligence-driven institution grounded in professionalism, accountability, and respect for democratic values,” the statement said.

While acknowledging ongoing security challenges, AYA maintained that the reforms provide a solid foundation for institutional growth and national security. The group urged continued support for President Tinubu, wishing him good health, wisdom, and strength as he leads the nation.
